Dear students, In Lessons 2 and 3 , we build on our understanding of descriptive writing by exploring two key techniques: “show, don’t tell” and sensory imagery . These lessons help us move beyond simply stating facts and instead encourage us to create vivid pictures in the reader’s mind. We practise transforming “telling” sentences into “showing” ones by focusing on actions, expressions, and reactions . This allows readers to understand emotions and situations without being directly told how a character feels. Alongside this, we explore the five senses—sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste —and learn how sensory details make writing more realistic and immersive. Through guided activities and short writing tasks, students experiment with combining showing techniques and sensory language to enhance their descriptive paragraphs.
